It Never Rains, But It Pours

Have you ever heard this expression before: "It never rains, but it pours?" I use it to connotate things happening in bunches. Like this week. Monday, I am told I am diabetic. Today, our youngest son came down with chicken pox. Next week my husband starts jury duty. At work, when I told co-workers how my week was going, one person said, "You must be looking forward to this week ending!"

Darn right!

So I bought a new book today: The New Glucose Revolution for Diabetes ( The Definitive Guide to Managing Diabetes and Prediabetes using the Glycemic Index) by Dr Jennier Brand-Miller and Kay Foster-Powell, Dr Stephen Colagiuri, and Alan Barclay.

I bought it because it said I could, on occasion, eat chocolate. Just not a lot of chocolate.

I don't know about swine flu but chicken pox is certainly sweeping the world at the moment! My grandaughter has had it and now my daughter has caught it from her. I hope you and your family find some peace eventually.

You are definitely deserving of some quiet weeks, and I hope they come soon.

hmmm, the last I heard Chocolate did not cure chicken pox.. so do be careful !!

The best thing you can ever do for yourself while living with diabetes or high cholestrol etc.. is to NOT tell yourself you "can't have this or that"... know in your heart of hearts..when you just can't stand it anymore.. have that chocolate or that ice cream.. the deal is.. don't make it a daily routine ir eveb weekly.. just have it to know you CAN have it if you really REALLY want to. It's so much easier than living with "I can't have it anymore"

I'm so sorry your results came back in the affirmative, Susan! Truly I am. I had gestational diabetes, and I swear sometimes I still imagine that fingers still hurt from the constant bloodletting. But hopefully, you'll manage to get it under control rather quickly. Even so, it's a major pain, and I'm very, very sorry you have to deal with it.

Susan - I believe that this book will be very helpful, and I'm sure things will star getting better!

Cath: our daycare had it, and I was hoping my children would get it. Graham has it badly - today is the first day he doesn't have a fever - and it's all on his face, and he looks dreadful. But he's watching a car race and is happy! lol I hope your daughter will be ok, it's much harder to take as an adult than as a child.

And don't worry, I'm hoping Holly-Anne will get it soon so we can get it all done with!! lol

Nymeth: thank you! :-D

bybee: I think 'quiet' will be some years in my future! lol just some reading time is what I want, now! and writing time....

Deslily: in my world, chocolate cures everything! lol and don't worry, I'm letting myself have a little bit - it is little - but there's no point never having it again, it's about portion control and getting more exercise, that I hope will help me. Thank you!

Debi: I first had gestational diabetes too, with the last child, and this was the 5th year after, so it was a routine blood check up. I knew i was prediabetic, but I thought I had cured it by walking and losing weight. Apparently being prediabetic never goes away! Silly me. So now I've progressed to diabetes. And my fingers are a little sore! lol So I really hope you don't get it. But, it's not the end of the world, just changing my world.

Gavin: I hope the book helps, and I thank you for your kind wishes :-D
I love your new ID photo too!

My father is diabetic but since he quit drinking booze, he can eat anything he wants.

I'm sorry to hear about all this, what a pain!
But next time I'm near Jim's Mom's I'll buy you a treat: diabetic safe chocolate that tastes LIKE chocolate! It's made with malt, not a sugar (glucose, fructose or any combination) or a chemical sweetener.
Also, have you tried Stevia as a sweetener? It's a plant, you can either grow it yourself as a houseplant and mix the dried leaves in your tea, or buy the pwdered extract. I tried the liquid extract but I can't get it out of the darned bottle by the drop. It's either none at all, or a big sploosh. lol

We should get together soon, I miss you!

violette : I don't drink! At all! It's just chocolate that I love....

Laurie: Yes, we have to get together soon. when are you in town next? And thank you for offering to pick up some diabetic chocolate for me to try! Jim was telling me it's near Picton :-D

I've heard of Stevia, I have to remember to look in Rainbow Foods and see if they have any there.....and then try no sugar in my tea :-(
